MIAMI — In her 88 years, Florence Siegel has learned how to relax: A glass of red wine. Some classical music, preferably Bach. And every night like clockwork, she lifts a pipe to her lips and smokes marijuana.

The discouraging D’s and F’s on my progress reports showed me that I was quickly on my way to achieving the worst grades of my life. I pursued work on my own to make up lost points. In addition to learning the journalism process of interviewing, reporting, and editing, I developed a work ethic that is arguably better than it was at the beginning of the semester.

I learned to deal with constant critique on my writing. I am usually very wary of having others look at my work. But for the sake of getting my work published, I sent in my work to multiple editors and dealt with the constant revisions.

I plan to take my newly developed work ethic and apply it to the class throughout next semester. I expect next semester to be a much smoother course and in turn more fun.

The infographic effectively guides the reader’s eyes along its path through clever use of colors (green to indicate start) and layout. The graphic leaves space for plenty of information through organized text. We can use this kind of infographic to show readers the steps of a certain process in school, such as the ASB decision making article idea.

Math club:
The club had a fundraiser which seems to have raised a substantial amount of money. Also, they had a competition about a week before winter break started. More people qualified for state from the last competition which gives washington a better showing in academic clubs.

Photography club- As a new club, some of their activities are still in planning. However, they try to have a photoshoot once a month. This month they are attempting to have a photo collage contest. Near the end of the year they’re going to have an art exhbition.

We could do articles on some of the photoshoots and on the art exhibition!

Having a meeting once a week, Math club bolsters the academic support for the school alongside clubs like the expressions club, scrivner, and the speech and debate club. Most of the math is based around logic rather than complex high-level math such as Calculus.

There’s a competition on October 20th  that we could do a story on, also on the lack of academic support among the clubs.

The Sonoma Valley high School broadcast is worth noting that it follows a news-broadcast style. It has substantial length in its weekly broadcasts and has a nice variety of footage, ranging from the general news to interviews. It seems to involve a substantial amount of effort as it utilizes multiple angles, microphones, and short films within its broadcasts. Overall it’s very well done and it’s clear that the school is serious about its video casts.

The reporters interviewed the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The reporters asked questions based on some controversial issues such as hikers detained after coming across the Iranian border, the holocaust, Afghanistan and Iraq, nuclear weapons, and on president Barack Obama.

The reporters could have asked more questions on the background information of the issues discussed. The reporters could have also asked about some more other controversial issues to interest the reader even more.
